Notes on Privacy

The goal of this project is, as stated, to provide a safe space for our communities to share, convene, and organize. The Witches Way Team commits to protecting, safeguarding, and securing your information, including but not limited to:
  • your group associations,
  • the content you post,
  • and your contact information.
To do this, we have implemented tiered access rules for members and moderators alike, specifically, we have implemented:
  • the requirement that all users use SSL encryption to access our site,
  • settings that prevent bot from crawling our site and storing your data,
  • various permission-levels for specific groups to ensure those who are not permitted to view private topics are prevented from doing so,
  • confirmation from at least one proper source that any person requesting application to a private group is in fact a member,
  • different moderation groups such that moderators will not be able access sections of the forum for which they are not permitted in accordance with that group's rules,
  • rules that require moderators of the private forums to be a person of that group, and
  • a method by which the site admin can delete data of private groups without having to directly access the content they are not permitted to view.
But despite all of our best efforts, the true nature of the internet remains, so we’d like to remind all users that nothing on the internet is ever truly private or completely secure. While we do our best to maintain a safe and respectful community, always assume that anything you share online—whether in posts, private messages, or other communications—could potentially be compromised in the future and seen by others.

Even after completing our eventual goal of moving to a hosting solution that is on a local private server owned by a member of the community and enabling zero-knowledge encryption, privacy and security will always end with you, the end-user. Once a duly authorized user accesses the content of the site, we lose control of its use, so please keep that in mind when posting content.

But we expect all users to adhere to the basic respect and right of each others' privacy and information and anyone found to have violated this ethos will be immediately banned.

For more information on our current hosting service's privacy policy, you can read it here.
